Formal charges have been brought against two men following a luggage theft where a suspected irritant spray caused injuries at the major London air hub.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, have both been charged with two robbery charges and two counts of deploying a toxic agent, as confirmed by court officials.

The charges follow an probe of an assault at the parking structure at Terminal 3 on the weekend. Prior to the attack, two women were robbed of their luggage stolen after exiting a parking garage elevator, according to law enforcement.

A toddler was among those injured during the incident. Several persons went to hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

This event – which authorities stated was a standalone event and not considered a terror-related act – resulted in disruptions to rail services and the temporary blocking of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area for a limited duration.
