Suspected Harasser Inquired: 'But What If I Might Be Madeleine?'
A woman accused with stalking Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a voicemail message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the tribunal learned phone records and data obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test over that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most covered investigations and continues to be unresolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
A separate voicemail, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Is that not significant for you?"
"I don't want money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I only wish to know," she added.
The tribunal was advised that via emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, told the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted close associates of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court heard the co-defendant established a association online with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in December 2024.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be considered genuine in the time preceding the visit to the village, the county, in that winter.
The court heard correspondence between the two individuals, in last November, discussing attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We have to assert ourselves," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the trip to their home, Mrs Spragg sent a message which expressed: "We're currently positioned adjacent to the McCanns' home with our lights out like private investigators. I had hoped to do this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings proceeds.
