Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
